The Desjardins Group Head Office
The Desjardins Group head office project involved the construction of a brand new four-storey building aiming for LEED silver certification. Featuring new strategies for office layout and functional organization, the plan focused on the ground-floor level, which is multi-purpose and features a large lobby facing a park. The workspaces were built as open areas, a new concept in the financial sector. This provides employees and clients with shared spaces and ensures a fairer distribution of natural light, which is now available to all occupants.
The building is largely glass-covered, particularly in the form of “curtain walls”. On the north facade, the triple-glazed windows are 4.5 metres high and 1.9 metres wide. This is one of the first times in North America that insulating glass was used on such a scale. The manufacturer Prelco (headquartered in Rivière du Loup) had to expand its factory and adapt its production line in order to deliver insulating glass of such size.
This was the first establishment to use a three module multi-stack cooler (VME II). This device offers major mid-season efficiency, in addition to maximum flexibility in terms of heat recovery and air conditioning.
