Maheu Maheu's Head Office
This commercial/industrial building has a surface area of 1,205 square feet, including laboratory and warehouse space. There are also offices, workrooms and a retail store.
The construction of Maheu & Maheu’s head office was a landmark event in Quebec as it marked the first time that a wooden glazed load-bearing wall design was used. This product was marketed by IC2 Technologies. The wall offers R-4 thermal resistance with double glazing (R-7 or more with triple glazing). The building contains 67 cubic metres of glue-laminated wood (Quebec black spruce). The main beams measure 175 mm by 494 mm with a span length of 7.43 metres.
IC2 Technologies’ wooden glazed doors have a sealing system in which two sheets of glass are joined without creating a thermal bridge in the existing wall. The watertight joints are set in a wood-covered insulation block. As opposed to traditional curtain walls, the larger the glazed surface, the better the heat efficiency because the mullions are not the weakest point.
